Freight Agent Job Description:
Duties include:
- Clerking
- Handling empty railcar releases
- Bill of ladings for loaded and empty cars
- Notifications to and from other railroads
- Tracing railcars
- Damaged railcar notifications
- Distribute daily work instructions to train crews generated from TMS as well as any instructions
from the Operations Department supervisory personnel. - Will also assist other departments and the railroad as a whole by transferring information in a timely manner between them.
- Information will include the status of cars found in need of
repairs, cars found to be without billing, opportunities for improving processes, chargeable events, reported safety concerns, etc. - Creating reports for management
- Miscellaneous filing and document management
- Some weekend work will be required
Skills, Knowledge, and Mental Requirements:

- At least 2 yrs. experience with EDI, bill of ladings, or rail transportation strongly preferred
- Prior experience with RMI/GE Transportation software strongly preferred
- Experience utilizing Microsoft Office – particularly Excel and Word
- Familiarity with North American geography/ability to read and understand a map
- Data entry skills

Physical Requirements:
- Constant (67-100%) talking and hearing either on the telephone or in person
- Frequent (50-100%) viewing a computer and other types of close visual work
- Occasional (10-25%) lifting over head or below waist up to 25 lbs.
