Freight Agent: Vermont Rail System

Freight Agent Job Description:

Duties include:

  • Clerking
  • Handling empty railcar releases
  • Bill of ladings for loaded and empty cars
  • Notifications to and from other railroads
  • Tracing railcars
  • Damaged railcar notifications
  • Distribute daily work instructions to train crews generated from TMS as well as any instructions
    from the Operations Department supervisory personnel.
  • Will also assist other departments and the railroad as a whole by transferring information in a timely manner between them.
  • Information will include the status of cars found in need of
    repairs, cars found to be without billing, opportunities for improving processes, chargeable events, reported safety concerns, etc.
  • Creating reports for management
  • Miscellaneous filing and document management
  • Some weekend work will be required

  • At least 2 yrs. experience with EDI, bill of ladings, or rail transportation strongly preferred
  • Prior experience with RMI/GE Transportation software strongly preferred
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Office – particularly Excel and Word
  • Familiarity with North American geography/ability to read and understand a map
  • Data entry skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Constant (67-100%) talking and hearing either on the telephone or in person
  • Frequent (50-100%) viewing a computer and other types of close visual work
  • Occasional (10-25%) lifting over head or below waist up to 25 lbs.
